A Word from the President Thank you for allowing me to serve this coming year as president of MOAPPA. As a newcomer to Missouri, I am pleased that we have an active state chapter of APPA and look forward to working with each of you. The University of Missouri-Columbia was pleased to host the April 24-26, 2006, MOAPPA annual conference. MOAPPA received a fantastic response from Business Partners this year with 43 exhibitors represented at the trade show, nine sponsors contributing toward receptions and meals, and nearly 40 door prizes donated, including a $700 grand-prize Rubbermaid mobile work cart and surge protector. The generosity of our business partners helped make this conference a resounding success! The conference kicked off Monday with a golf outing and campus tour for non-golfers, followed by an evening reception at the Stoney Creek Inn. With 110 participants representing 24 colleges and universities and 10 businesses, the conference officially opened Tuesday with sessions presented by Campus Facilities staff and other MU professionals. Sessions ranged from energy conservation to master planning, preventive maintenance and landscape management. A trade show and dinner followed at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse. Wednesday’s schedule started with breakfast at MU’s award-winning student dining facility, Plaza 900. From there, participants chose one of two tours – the Student Rec Center or the Life Sciences Center – both major undertakings and nationally recognized facilities. Late-morning tours of Mizzou Arena or the Botanic Garden/Tree Trails were followed by a barbecue lunch and the business meeting, where Maryville University in St. Louis agreed to host the 2007 conference, which wrapped up the three-day conference. If you were unable to attend the conference, the schedule and list of participants and vendors is available on this web site. Please take a look and let us know if you have any questions. We’d be happy to help. It is my hope that each of us can convince our colleagues at other Missouri higher education institutions of the value of the networking opportunities at the MOAPPA, CAPPA and APPA conferences. We can learn from the successes and failures of others and together build a stronger organization, one campus at a time. Gary L. Ward President, MOAPPA Assistant Vice Chancellor-Facilities University of Missouri-Columbia
